Abbott Laboratories (NYSE: ABT), a $35b global producer of diagnostics, devices, generic pharmaceuticals and nutritional products, has acquired Walk Vascular, LLC, a developer of a commercialized thrombectomy system used to remove peripheral blood clots (JETi system). The JETi system works by inserting a distal catheter into veins and arteries where clots have formed. Once the catheter is inserted, a saline jet breaks up clots without harming surrounding cells and subsequently, destroyed clots are removed by either an internal or external vacuum pump. On average, the entire procedure takes just over an hour. Terms not announced.
